Jean Byatt

Biography

Coming from a long line of artists and master potters, I have always wanted to paint and I am a self-taught artist. I have been a member of the Society of Staffordshire Artists since 2001. I have won numerous prizes over many years, including the prestigious Macclesfield Open in 2016 with my oil painting ‘A shady lane’ and the Brampton Open 2015 Visitors Prize in 2015, a Pastel “RX 415 at Dungeness”.

Although I am proud of my ‘roots’ having been born in Burslem, the mother town of the ‘Potteries’, I am happy to paint the beautiful landscapes that can be found everywhere. I always strive to portray the natural beauty and colours in great detail, using oils, pastels, watercolours and inks, also drawings in pencil, charcoal and pen and wash.
