Visit To The Walker Gallery Liverpool.

It was a lovely day out at the Walker Gallery in Liverpool to view the Turner Exhibition. It is one thing to see great artworks by the Master in photographs but something completely different to see them in person! The visit to the gallery exhibition included a “Curator Talk” which made the experience even more educational and emersive.

SSA Impetus Exhibition at Keele University 2022 – Young Artists Participation and Awards.

The SSA had a wonderful exhibition at the Chancellor’s Building at Keele University from 11th October to the 3oth November. There was a keynote speech by Professor David Amigoni of Victorian Literature and University lead for Keele Culture and Arts. David Cartmell provided the live music. Kerry Jones and Katrina worked with the SSA and helped enormously to make the exhibition highly successful.
We have been planning this event to include younger artists to participate with existing SSA members. Some thirteen young artists exhibited in the exhibition. At the end of the show the Society offered a £150 prize to the young artist whose work was voted the most popular by the public. All the young artists have been offered a one year honorary membership to exhibit with us next year at our various venues. The first being the Nicholson Gallery in Leek (from February 22nd 2023). The Society hopes that this might encourage some of them to continue to showcase their work in the future and hopefully with the Society as well.

The winning picture “We Are Rapidly Running Out Of Time” is seen being held up by Society President John Thirlwall. Congratulations to the artist and all those who participated in the Impetus Exhibition.

Keele Opening Of The Impetus Exhibition

A wonderful opening evening was had by all. We had 27 SSA members exhibiting, with 13 young emerging artists also exhibiting with us. In total there are some 65 works on display.

The exhibition in the Chancellor’s building at Keele University is open to the public until Nov 30th. 10am to 8pm.

The exhibition was formerly opened during the private viewing on Tues Oct 11th, by Keele’s Professor of Victorian Literature and lead in Culture and the Arts, Professor David Amigoni.

It was attended and supported by over seventy people, with David Carmell providing the live keyboard music. Very grateful thanks to Kerry Jones, Keele’s Development Manager for Public Engagement, and Katrina and their install team, and for helping me to organise all of this, and providing the wine and refreshments, and input to many of the young artists exhibiting with us. We just couldn’t have done it without their expertise.

Atmosphere Exhibition – Potteries Museum & Art Gallery

Our “Atmosphere” exhibition at The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery was a wonderful chance for the Society’s members to show off their creativity and it certainly didn’t disappoint… it was great to see a visit to the exhibition from our Patron of the Society Ian J Dudson CBE KStJ – Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire pictured with our President John Thirlwall and Exhibitions Organiser Mike Reeves in the first photo.

The “Atmosphere” exhibition ran from November 2021 to February 2022. Thank you to all involved in making it another fine showcase event of the Society’s members artwork.
