We are also pleased to announce our exhibition (Stoke Past & Present) at The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery Hanley, which opens 23rd November and runs until 23rd February 2025. This exhibition also celebrates the 90th anniversary of our first SSA exhibition which was also at the Hanley Museum! So we hope you will make time to visit and see works celebrating the culture of our area.

To coincide with our Hanley “Stoke Past & Present” exhibition we have produced a beautifully designed booklet, which celebrates the history of the Society and will be available to purchase… and is highly recommended!

It was all hands to the pump as our exhibition team hung the artworks and labelled them ready for the opening. There’s lots of variation of styles of artworks and sculptures to view.

The exhibition starts today (30th May) and runs until the 27th June 2024 – We have an official preview on 8th June at 1pm – all welcome.

“Hi everyone, it’s been a while since I organised an art exhibition of my own. The New Vic theatre has a lovely lounge area in which a number of my works will be exhibited. If you could pop in for the ‘Social Viewing’ on May 24th (1:30 -3:00pm) to join Pat and myself in a glass of wine, or if that’s too early a tea or coffee, it would be lovely to see you. Newcastle town centre is just down the road so you might like to call in as you do a bit of shopping!”

The reason for writing to you now is to tell you about something different and, I hope, about something that will encourage you to think positively about the future.

The Society, like so many organisations, has been forced into inactivity, almost like hibernation with no opportunity for exhibitions or events.

Thankfully however, certain members of the committee have remained active, working hard in keeping the social media and the exhibition sides ticking over. At a recent committee meeting using Zoom we were able to meet up to discuss one or two important issues in taking your Society forward.

Exhibitions will always be at the forefront of our activities and Mike Reeves has worked hard in maintaining relationships with the key people in the local galleries and exhibition venues. There are several exciting exhibitions in prospect and Mike will keep you up to date with developments as they move forward.

Likewise, other Committee Members have kept our presence on social media alive and there are plans to further improve these to enhance the Society’s presence and to give you the opportunity to use these facilities to showcase and enhance your profile.

We also believe that the Society and its members can benefit by increasing its membership and the committee are looking to ways in which good artists can be encouraged to join. You too can help in this by spreading the word with those you believe will make good members.

Our events calendar has been non-existent but we now have one or two things being planned which I trust will whet your appetite and encourage you to take part and help re-establish the Society as an active art community.
